This entry is part 2 of 7 in the series Miami Vice FAQS

Q: Why does the episode guide have several titles that are different from the ones listed in syndicated airings?

A: USA Networks altered several episode titles during their run, and FX continued to use those altered titles during their run.

The episodes that were changed were:

Another episode with an alternate title was Free Verse. It was reported to have aired during several syndicated broadcasts with the title “Zero Solution”.

There was one other episode that had a real “alternate” title during it’s original broadcast run. The episode No Exit had an alternate title of “Three-Eyed Turtle”. This comes from the original NBC broadcast, as well as the “Making Of Miami Vice” book done about the series in between the second and third seasons. Another alternate title of “Rita” for this episode appeared during FX’s broadcasting run… this came from the title of the shooting script.

Q: Why is Sonny driving the Daytona again in El Viejo when it was blown up 6 episodes earlier in When Irish Eyes Are Crying?

A: The original air dates of these episodes are out of order in terms of when they were produced.

They originally intended to show El Viejo as the 3rd season opener, but decided that a dramatic event like blowing up the Daytona would make When Irish Eyes Are Crying a better season opening episode. Thus, the opening few episodes of the 3rd season are seen out of order, production-wise.

Zoom, I don’t quite recall that episode. Could it have been “The Great McCarthy” which features a bank robbery (Season 1) or possibly “Golden Triangle” which features Sonny and Rico stopping their investigation of hooker shakedowns to investigate a heist in a hotel?
